International Tea Festival

The world is coming to Guwahati this November to take part in the International tea festival that will be held on November 22 at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor stadium at Sasusajai. The three day festival will be a platform for the tea brewers of the world to show case the quality of their “two leaves and a bud” and the festival will also provide an opportunity for Assam to give a boost to its tea industry which is going through a rough period.
As many as 400 delegates from all corners of the world would be taking part in the festival. The participating countries are Russia, United Kingdom, Germany, Pakistan, Egypt, Kenya and Sri Lanka, China and Indonesia. Apart from a few countries maximum of the delegates have confirmed their participation.
The International tea festival would be a great high point for Assam as it would focus global attention to the otherwise lesser known state of Assam. Assam has mstly been in the public eye for the wrong reasons such as terrorism etc but this is the perfect break for the state to make the best of the occasion and try to obliterate the myths and misconceptions about itself
This is also the perfect occasion to give a boost to the tourism industry by providing the best facilities and security to the visiting delegates. The delegates will be visiting Kaziranga National Park, Tocklai Tea Research Centre etc.
Assam produces around 52 percent of tea produced in India therefore it is a laudable effort on the part of the state government to organize the festival here. This event can give a push to the tea industry by increasing the exports.
The delegates are also slated to visit tea gardens where they would get a first hand experience of tea production of the state.
