Assam law and order scenario impoves a bit: Home Ministry

Assam's overall law and order situation is improving a bit if the recent Home ministry report is to be believed.

The report says there is slight decrease in the violent scenario in Assam adding that the state has registered only 152 cases till March 31, 2008 as compared to the corresponding period of the last year when the number of such incidents was 156.

The report, however, has attributed it to the sustained counter insurgency operations against militant outfits. It says till March 31, 2008, 293 militants have been killed or arrested or surrendered 146 of whom were from ULFA. activists.

Attacks on railway personnel and property continued in North Cachar hill district by 'Black Widow', an offspring of Dima Halam Daogah militants, it says.
Meanwhile, the home ministry report has it that Manipur continues to be affected by insurgent activities of a large number of militant outfits divided on ethnic lines. There were 584 incidents resulting in killing of 39 security personnel and 130 civilians last year.
