AGP retains Sonowal in Dibrugarh, Sarma in Lakhimpur

The main Opposition party Asom Gana Parishad retains its sitting MP Sarbananda Sonowal in Dibrugarh and Dr Arun Sarma in Lakhimpur constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

According to information, the state’s main Opposition party on Wednesday has announced the first list of its candidates retaining sitting MPs Dr Arun Sarma and Sarbananda Sonowal in Lakhimpur and Dibrugarh constituencies respectively. This was disclosed by party president Brindabon Goswami in a press conference at the party headquarters in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, AGP president Brindabon Goswami said, “it’s the first list of our candidates for the next Lok Sabha polls. Dr Arun Sarma has been fielded in Lakhimpur and Sarbananda Sonowal will again contest from Dibrugarh.”

The names of both the sitting MPs have been suggested by a panel of the party set up to conduct a field study in the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of Assam. According to president Goswami, led by general secretaries Chandra Mohan Patowary and Hitendranath Goswami, the panel will soon suggest the names of some other candidates.
