The main Opposition Asom Gana Parishad is forging poll pact with the Bharatiya Janata Party to steal the show in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. But both the parties have yet to arrive at a consensus on the seat sharing formula.

Talking to reporters in Delhi NDA's prime ministerial leader L.K. Advani on Thursday called it a very important decision in the wake of the series of bombings in the state, which has already been in turmoil.

The announcement follows a meeting BJP leaders Jaswant Singh and Sushma Swaraj had Wednesday with AGP leaders. The announcement is only a formality after it was finalised on Wednesday.

BJP chief Rajnath Singh said while INLD joined NDA last month, I had said that more parties would join.

AGP president Chandra Mohan Patwari said  Assam is the transit point of illegal Bangladeshi migrants to other parts of India and that both the parties will work together to find a permanent solution on the issue.

Later a statement issued in Delhi reads: The BJP and AGP will work together on basic issues like implementation of Assam Accord, sealing of Indo-Bangla border, issuing photo identity cards, restoration of peace through meaningful political dialogue with militant outfits and granting of ST status to six communities in the state as recommended by Assembly.
