Nagaon district administration gearing up for Panchayat election

In view of the ensuing panchayat elections that will be held on January 4 and 9 respectively in Nagaon district, a meeting of all political parties with the Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Dr. J Balaji was held in the DC's chamber on December 7. The meeting held under the presidentship of Deputy Commissioner and was attended by Superintendent of Police Nitul Gogoi, all Block development officers of Nagaon district, Additional deputy commissioners and all SDO's besides the Presidents and Secretaries of respective political parties of Nagaon district.

The DC informed that already 1,438 polling stations have been set up in Nagaon town and there are total 7,52,000 voters against these stations. The district administration will recruit 8,640 Polling Presiding officers to operate the polling stations. He further said that Rs.1 crore will be expended for this election.

According to rules and regulations of panchayat polls, all candidates must have to submit two types of 'Oathpapers' (affidavit).

These two types are criminal affidavit and account of own properties, educational qualification, government repayment etc.

The DC also informed that three 'observer' from Guwahati will come to look into the election in the entire Nagaon district. The meeting also discussed other matters related to the election.

Balaji, in his speech, also appealed to all political parties for help and co-operation for smooth conduct of a free and fair poll.
