Sonia assesses flood situation in Assam

Guwahati : All India Congress Committee President and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday made an aerial survey of the flood situation of Assam. Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, and senior congress leaders Chandan Bagchi and  Digvijay Singh accompanied her. They had reached Lilabari Airport in Lakhimpur district this morning at 10.30 AM and then flew to Dhemaji by an Air Force Helicopter. There they met Government officials and flood ravaged people and took a stock of the situation. She asked the Assam Chief Minister to arrange proper relief and rehabilitation for those affected people and assured all possible help from the Central Government. Then they flew back to Lilabari and boarded a special flight for Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Borjhar. On the way to Borjhar they made an aerial survey of flood hit Nalbari, Kamrup, Barpeta and several other districts. The team departed for Bihar from Borjhar to assess the flood situation at 2.30 PM.
