Jewel Star emerged Champions
Jewel Star has became champion in the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Football Tournament defeating Star Sporting by 6-5 goals in a tie-breaker in the final played at the SAI ground, Guwahati on August 20.
Both teams scored two goals each and in the penalty shoot-out Jewel Star scored four against Star Sporting three. During the stipulated 90 minutes Pankaj Rajkonwar and Anil Barman struck for the losing team while Sujit Singh and John Daimmary were the scorer for the winning team.
Sujit Singh was adjudged best player while Amit Saha Roy (both from Jewel Star) received the best goal keeper award. Guwahati SAI team got the fair play trophy. The winning team received Rs 20,000 while the runners up team got Rs 10,000 as prize money.
Local MLA Robin Bordoloi was the chief guest. Assam Pradesh Youth Congress president Pijush Hazarika, former president Rekibuddin Ahmed, Guwahati City District Youth Congress (GCDYC) president Ratan Boro along with other members were also present on the occasion. The championship was organised by the GCYDC to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Late Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi.
