Big day for Indian women boxers in Asian boxing champs

World champion Indian woman boxer Padmashree Mary Kom along with Kalpana Chaudhury from Assam, Sarita Devi and Pabitra have stormed in to the finals of Asian Women Boxing championship to be concluded on Sunday at the Sarusajai Indoor Stadium in Guwahati.

The Arjun awardee and three time world champion Mary Kom on Saturday beat Nguyen Thi Hoa from Vietnam by 3-0 points in the 46 kg category A jubilant Mary told reporters that she would try to strike gold in this event. “I am happy..I will try to strike gold,” said Mary Kom.

After Mary Kom, Kalpana Chaudhury from Assam stormed in the finals in yet another rounds of semi finals on Saturday defeating South Kora’s Ri Jong Hyang by 3-1 points. Another world champion boxer from Manipur Saritha Devi defeated Eserenchimeg Teserendorj Mangolia by 18-1 points to storm into the finals.
This was followed by anothr Indian boxer Pavitra’s entry into the finals. She edged Koroleva Oxana from Kazaghastan. This has made the audience and organisers happy.

The final event of the Asian Women Boxing Championship will start from 3-30 on Sunday afternoon.
