One drowns in Nonai river

DIMAKUCHI: One Mahindra Porja, a resident of No.3 Uttar Dimakuchi (Porja Basti) village under Dimakuchi Police station near Dimakuchi TE had reportedly drowned in the nonai">Nonai river on Tuesday morning. Porja wanted to cross the river with his nephew Aasman Porja (30). But the he was swept away by the high river current. Aasman Porja stated that they were moving towards Paneri Tea Estate to meet their relatives. Both were in an inebriated state. The body of the deceased is yet to be traced. Moreover the bridge over nonai">Nonai river is still under construction.

Polling ends with huge turn in Jorhat

Polling has ended in Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency with a huge turn out of more than 85 on Monday.

The polling which began at 7 in the morning ended at 5  in the evening. Voters in large numbers were seen lined up in front of the booths till the end of the voting. The authorities had to extend the voting hour by one hours after polling was halted because of technical glitches in many places. Comprising ten assembly segments with 11, 73,947 voters, polling took place at 1,597 booths.

Of them 04371 voters are male while 570476 others are female.

The authorities have deployed over 3,000 officials with 1700 electronic voting machines to ensure free and fair polls.

Congress candidate BK Handique wants to be elected again while BJP candidate Kamakhya Prasad Tasa makes his second attempt this time.

AGP leader and former transport minister Pradeep Hazarika is contesting along with Drupod Buragohain from CPI and Manoram Gogoi from AAP. The counting would take place on May 16.

ISL: NE United help Pune FC!

In a bizarre kick that draws flak the North East United FC have gone down to FC Pune City 1-0 in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) in Pune on Friday evening. 

The goal came from the own side allowing the home team to score the unexpected victory at the end of the 94 minute thrilling match. Much to utter disappointment for millions of soccer fans from north east, the John Abraham owned team are yet to open their account.

The goal of in Friday’s match came in the 72nd minute when NorthEast United defender Zohmingliana Ralte headed a corner into his own goal inviting huge applause for home team.

 

AKRSU eyes to be reunification

After a long year scattered working in the students union, the All Koch Rajbongsi Students Union (AKRSU ) both faction Hiteswar Barman and Biswajit Ray expressed their willingness to be reunification to the greater interest of the community.

Barman expressed his welcome gesture as Biswajit Ray had recently openly revealed to take his retirement from the students union and wished a grand reunification to meet a strong union of the community. He said that his faction student union was always ready to reunion and to lead the community to unite the community of which why the students union had unification in 2010, but later Biswajit Ray scattered and self held president of his faction.

'There would be no hesitation to reunion if Ray wants to do so for the greater interest of the community', told Barman.

On the agitation to the demand of ST status, Barman has slammed BJP led NDA govt that centre has been denieying their demands as BJP had promised to grant ST status to the community. He has warned for strong mass agitation from November next if their demands are not meet in early manner.

Further Barman reacted over the remarks raised from Prithibi Narayan Dev, who had been changed his identity to so called Royal Union of Mech Kingdom from Royal Union of Koch Kingdom. Barman termed Primthibi as immature leader,was mislead by so called leaders to create confusion among common masses in the community.

He has claimed that Koch Rajbongsi community was not belonged to Mech clan, so remarks from Primthibi was not accepted.
