Senior Health Officer held for scam

Nagaon police on June 26th arrested Dr Harendra Barua, Sub-divisional Health and
Medical officer of Barapujia Block of Nagaon district in connection with the
National Rural Health Misssion NRHM) scam that was brought to light recently.
Earlier, Pradip Bora, accounts officer and Devajit Bhuyan,programme manager of
the same block have been arrested by Nagaon police for pocketing more than 
Rs.30 lakhs,meant for the NRHM beneficiaries and ASHA workers.
According to police, Dr Barua had issued blank cheques in the name of the
department and is one of the main accused of the case.
It is worth mentioning that accused Pradip Bora who was arrested by Nagaon
police on June 11th, claimed that Dr Harendra Barua and Babul Saikia, Joint
Director, Health Department , Nagaon district, both have been involved in this
scam along with them. He claimed this while he talked to the reporters soon
after his arrest.
