Assam Times: NC hills update: 2 more workers killed NC hills update: 2 more workers killed ================================================================================ Editor on 12 May, 2008 08:33:00 Suspected DHD(J) militants have killed two more workers engaged in railway broad gauge construction work in North Cachar Hills district on Monday. According to information, the incident took place on at Migraindisa under Mahur police station at around 11-30 am. This was preceded by a heavy exchanged firing with the BSF near Panimur where no casualty has been reported. The incident was followed by the killing of 8 labourers engaged in railway construction Sunday, in retaliation to Saturday's killing of 12 militants of the outfit during the joint operation at Keralu camp on Saturday. The ceasefire between the DHD(BW) and Centre had expired recently and the state government had been instructed by the Union Home Ministry to draw up an action plan to improve the law and order situation in N C Hills district. Notably, these militants have been unleashing a reign of terror with killings, extortions and kidnappings. Of late, they have targeted the workers engaged in railway broad gauge conversion and East-West Corridor highway construction as infrastructure development in the district.
