AASU will continue agitation for AOD cause

The All Assam Students Union will continue the agitation unless the government stops the move to retain the Assam Oil Division's marketing branch in Assam. The AASU leaders have warned that they are not comfort with OIL's decision only to retain the red rhino symbol. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, AASU adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjee said they will stop any move to hurt the interest of Assam and its people. He criticized the Tarun Gogoi Government for remaining silent in this regard. Dr Bhattacharjee said its only because of stiff resistance by AASU and Asom Unnati Sabha the authorities have retained the red rhino symbol. General secretary of the student body Tapan Kumar Gogoi said the Tinsukia AASU unit and Margherita Asom Unnanti Sabha unit will take form a human chain on May 28 in Digboi in protest against these move. They demand the implementation of the per the Act passed in Parliament 1981, the Government is bound to retain the entity of the Assam Oil Division marketing branch at Digboi, Rs 1,000 crore for the century old Digboi oil refinery from the Centre, a director from Assam as well as North East in the Indian Oil Corporation board besides steps to enhance the refining capacity of all the Assam oil refineries.
