Violence mars 12-hour statewide Assam bandh
A 12 hour statewide Assam bandh is disrupting normal life from early this morning which is marked by some sporadic incidence of violence. Sponsored by a teachers' body in protest against the celebration of two year anniversary of the Tarun Gogoi Government, the bandh is total in lower and central Assam districts.
Altogether 10 people have been injured when they were caught in a clash with police in Jagibhakat gaon in Morigaon district early in the morning. This was followed by an altercation by police and some picketers in Lahorigaht in Nagaon distict.
On the other hand, police have arrested in 10 people Basanaghat area, 15 others in Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon area while some picketing teachers are blocking the National Highways disrupting normal traffic communication.
All business establishments are remaining closed and barring police and army vehicles, others are off from the streets. The clashes, mostly are taking place while police vehicles are prevented from moving by the picketing teachers. With this 12 hour statewide bandh the teachers body has opposed the government function organised in the city of Guwahati to mark the completion of two years.
