Rhino killings in KNP: forest department submitted report to CBI

The incidents of rhino killings in Kaziranga National Park, which have shaken the nation, has now been investigated by the country’s supreme investigative agency CBI. It is important to mention here that last year twenty rhinos have been killed by the poachers and in this year also the poachers have already killed seven rhinos. On the other hand various organizations including AASU has taken up various programmes including the blockade of national highway against the frequent killing of rhinos by the poachers. Therefore the State Govt. finally decided to hand over the investigation of rhino killings in Kaziranga National Park to the CBI. In connection with the ongoing investigation CBI recently sent a letter to the state forest department seeking some documents. In compliance of the letter sent by the CBI the park authority sent a report containing various informations from 1984 onwards such as the number of cases registered, steps taken up by the police and forest department against the poachers etc. to the Chief Conservator of Forest, Assam. The Chief Conservator of Forest has already forwarded the same to the CBI.
