PM cancels Kokrajhar on bad weather
An inclement weather has forced Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to cancel his Kokrajhar visit scheduled for Tuesday morning. After attending a meeting at the IIT campus in Guwahati, the Prime Minister is leaving for the national capital. Notably, on Monday Dr Singh has laid the foundation stone of the Jorhat medical College Hospital but canceled the Nagaon public rally due to bad weather. Later in the evening Dr Singh attended a cabinet meeting and assured steps to resolve the problems confronting the statre for years. A delegation of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee too called on the prime minister and submitted a memorandum to him requesting him to solve the flood and erosion problems of the state. Bangladeshi problem also figured in the meeting.
Meanwhile, The opposition parties of Assam have felt humiliated and ill-treated by the staff of the Raj Bhawan after they were denied a meeting with the Prime Minister Monday evening. As per the itinerary, a delegation of the opposition parties comprising the AGP, BJP, AUDF and the Jamiyat had gone to the Raj Bhawan to meet the Prime Minister at 5.30 PM. However, till 7.30, no communication was sent by the Prime Minister. They also alleged that no staff member inquired during their waiting hour forcing the opposition members to walk out of the Raj Bhawan.
