Man-elephant conflict: 1 dead

HTML clipboardIn a man-elephant conflict, one person lost his life at Hawaipur forest area under Hojai forest divison in Nagaon district on September 21 at around 7.45 pm.

According to P Siva Kumar, DFO, Hojai, the tragic incident took place when four biscuit traders of Hojai were proceeding towards Karbi Anglong through Hawaipur forest at around 7.45 pm yesterday. Though the traders were warned by the forest anti-depradation-squad not to move farther on that way as at such a time very often a herd of elephants appears, but they did not listen to the forest guards. While two of them returned back and one moved forward, but the other hesitated person who could not decide anything, was attacked by an elephant and trampled him to death. The elephant even strew the parts of the victim's body across the forest area, the DFO said.

The victim was identified as Ratan Majumdar of Hojai area.
