Silk steals the show

Guwahati: Assam’s silk products stole the limelight in the North East Handloom & Handicraft Fair, 2007 which came to close in the city on Monday.

Sponsored by North East Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi), the business event evokes “encouraging” response from the visitors.

Speaking to Assam Times, participants here say the 8-day long event will help them hone  the business skill.

“Our business is more than our target,” says Anjali Adhikari of Adhikari Pat MugaUdyug, Assam. “Our target was only 1 lakh. But it crossed three days back,” says Mrs Adhikari.

For Archana Das who hails from Dhemaji, the sale of her silk products stands at Rs 2 lakh although her target was Rs 3 lakh. She says her products are made out of 100 % muga.

To Mr K S Ranjah of Meghalaya, who deals in handicraft, the entire event is encouraging. “I have received supply order of Rs 16,000 only, mostly from Assam Emporium,” he informs.

Most of the  items are uncommon. “I am satisfied although I could not meet my transcation target,” says Ongmit Lepcha of Zephyr Paper, Sikkim.

Later NEDFi officials here say the event is satisfactory informing that they will hold altogether 11 events this year.
