In yet another setback for United Liberation Front of Asom, 66 of its cadres including the most wanted Ujjal Gohain have surrendered before authority on Thursday.

Mr Gohain was the finance secretary with the proscribed organisation’s 28th battalion, who reportedly was in touch with the authorities for the last one month.

All these surrenders came up after the arrest of Prabal Neog in mid-September.

These militants laid down their arms at a function organised at the 4th Assam Police Battalion Headquerters in the
city.

Two more militants belonging to AANLA also surrendered in the function which was attended by the Director General of Police R N Mathur, General Office Commanding with Army’s 4 corp and IGP Khagen Sarma.

Laying down their arms, they solemnly vowed to eschew the path of violence.

Notably, several ULFA leaders have surrendered before the authorities just after the arrest of Prabal Neog, the chief of the dreaded crack unit 28th battalion.

With this the total number of surrendered ULFA cadre are over 135 in last two weeks.
