Brisk turn out in Sonia rally

Sonia Gandhi seems to have pulled huge crowd as the Congress president arrived to campaign for Ranee Narah in Lakhimpur on Sunday.

Over 20,000 people have already thronged at the venue before the arrival of the UPA chairperson. The workers, mostly, ferried by hiring various buses and other four wheeler vehicles from early in the morning.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita also attended the rally to campaign for the Union minister for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Earlier, the Congress president landed at the Lilabari Airport at around 11-30 in the morning. Then she left or the rally by a chopper.  

The polling in Lakhimpur will take place on April 7 along with Jorhar, Tezpur, Koliabor and Dibrugarh.

Huge storm lashes Udalguri

Properties worth lakhs of rupees have been ravaged when a huge storm unleashed a reign of terror in Udalguri district disrupting surface communication in many places on Saturday morning.

Accompanied by heavy downpour, the storm hit Tangla, Bhergaon, Dimakuchi, Totlapara, Dharamjuli, Nashanshali, Borengajuli  in the morning which continued for around half an hour.

Many houses collapsed and many trees, electric and telephone posts were uprooted to block the vital roads. No casulaty is reported. But it would take time to restore the surface communication network.


Dergaon: Woman killed in police-public clash

A woman was killed and several others were injured as police men from the Dergaon based Police Training College clashed with local people. The clash began initially with as few businessmen and later it spilled to the local people who have blocked the National Highway 37. This has made thousands of vehicles remain stranded. Details are awaited.

Kokrajhar all set to welcome Modi

Kokrajhar is all set to accord warm welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar.

Modi is arriving here at 10.40 AM in a special chopper.All necessary arrangements have been made to the function,said MP Sarma,Kokrajhar deputy commissioner.

Modi is likely to address huge rally tomorrow and is expectred that he will announce thousands of crores to the council region.Over lakh of peoples are expecting to thronged the huge rally tomorrow,Sarma added.
