Altogether 11,65,706 voters are expected to exercise their franchise the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency in the second phase of polling which is going on from Saturday morning.
Polling began at 1,504 booths from 7 in the morning to end at 5 in the afternoon. Of these, the authorities have identified 97 as hyper sensitive and 694 as sensitive along with 529 hyper sensitive. The rest are comparatively safe.
The contest is triangular. Congress, BJP and AIUDF are equally strong in Karimganj. The two-time sitting Congress MP Lalit Mohan Suklabaidya is pitted against BJP candidate Krishna Das while AIUDF candidate Radheyshyam Biswas is set to get no less vote in the minority pockets.
Counting will take place along with the rest of the country on May 16.
