Brisk polling is going on in Silchar Lok Sabha constituency from 7 in the morning to decide on the fate of altogether 17 candidates in the second phase of Lok Sabha polls on Saturday.
Voters----both male and female are waiting in huge queues in front of the polling stations from 7 in the morning. The Barak Valley constituency has 1233, polling stations. These include 209 hyper sensitive while 611 others comparatively safe.
Altogether 10,58,870 voters are expected to exercise their franchise till 5 in the evening. BJP MP and former Union minister Kabindra Purkayastha is facing a keen contest with her nearest rival Congress candidate Sushmita Dev, who is also the Silchar MLA.
AIUDF has fielded Kutubuddin Ahmed Mazumdar who is no less popular in some minority dominated areas.
Counting will take place along with the rest of the country on May 16.
