12 arrested in Kokrajhar and Baksa

Police arrested 12 persons from Baksa and Kokrajhar district on Saturday for involving election related incidents.

Eight persons including 5 minor students and three ABSU members last late evening from Nikashi area in Baksa district of Assam.

According to sources police picked up Sonam Boro, 17(class 11), Raja Narzary, 15, (class X), Ajay Ramchiary, 15 (class X), Daoharu Boro, 18(class 12 and Rupul Ramchiary, 17 (class 11). The other three are members of Nilashi unit ABSU- Pranab Narzary, Sushil Ramchiary and Saniram Ramchiary for their alleged involvements in violent activities in pre-poll in the district. 

Meanwhil,  over a 1000 villagers of Daragaon, Dhansripur, Baganpur and Dihira gheraoed Nikashi police outpost demanding unconditional release of eight persons on Saturday.

Police assured released of the school students. 

Mention be made that Baksa witnessed a series of sporadic incident related to election since the last days.  

Meanwhile, police arrested Rafiqul Islam, president of Kokrajhar District committee of All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU) and three others members- AikhandarAli, Abu Baktar Ali and Madhu Sheik for indulging violent activities including setting on fire the election office of Bodoland Peoples’ Front(BPF) at Bombrabil in Kokrajhar district this morning. They have been sent to jail.

Security forces have intensified their combing operation against militant outfits in the region.  Three link men/over ground worker of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Songbijit faction were apprehended by security forces in a joint operation at Ripu Reserve Forest on Sunday morning in Kokrajhar district. Over 15 shops along the Fakiragram main Bazar in Lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district have turned into ashes.  The fire damaged worth of nearly 50 lakhs properties following fire in gutted on Friday late night. A businessman was hospitalized after attacked with sharp weapon by miscreants at Champa bazaar area on Friday evening in Kokrajhar district. In a joint operation launched by the security forces from Assam Police and Army apprehended a cadre of Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) at Salakati village under Kokrajhar PS on Friday.  He was identified as Sonaram Roy of Balagaon area of Kokrajhar district. An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Habrubari in Kokrajhar district on Friday,which was a part of offsite emergency mock on the IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri underground pipeline to test the preparedness of its emergency personnel. A live fire fighting exercise was carried out alongside the drill by Fire and Rescue Services personnel.
