Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday gave hint of a slew of measures to help Guwahati get rid of the artificial floods.
Inspecting the flood effected Ganeshguri, Zoo Road and Bharalumukh areas in the city, the chief minister asked GMDA minister Ajanta Neog to speed up de-siltation of the river Bharalu so that the problem of massive waterlogging can be solved.
Talking to reporters on his visit to the three places, Gogoi blamed rampant earth cutting in the hills area for settlement as the main reason of the artificial flood in Guwahati.
He said that the earth cutting for settlement has been done at the instance of a section of so-called leaders whom he won’t spare.
He further assured the people of steps to divert the Meghalaya waters, a major concern for the Guwahati denizens.
Accompanied by PWD and GMDA minister Ajanta Neog along with GMDA commissioner, Kamrup Metro deputy commissioner, Gogoi visited Ganeshguri at 11 in the morning.
Then he left for Bharalumukh where he talked to the officials along with a few local residents. After 12 noon, he left for Zoo Road to see he filthy drains.
On the other hand, strangely enough, a few GMDA workers completed cleaning of the river just before the arrival of the chief minister.
