Its hard to believe but true. Assam needed 25 years to deport , 2,446 Bangladeshi nationals after they were detected as immigrants. These are out of 59,500 Bangladeshis immigrants detected as per the Assam Accord, 1985.
This was what the government admitted in the assembly on Wednesday. According to the government, nearly two lakh cases were pending since 1985 to May 2014 in different Foreigners Tribunals in the state.
According to forest minister Rockybul Hussain, 59,512 foreigners have been detected as per the Assam Accord between 1985 and May 2014.
He said that out of these, 2,446 Bangladeshi nationals have been deported from Assam. He added that of the total detected persons, 42,460 are absconders.
