The Centre has assured Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of more security forces to contain the burning situation along the Assam-Nagaland border a day after the Naga miscreants killed two local people in Uriam ghat in Golaghat district.
Gogoi got the assurance when he talked to Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday morning.
The armed miscreants on the Nagaland side opened fire on a group of agitators demanding release of two school students suspected to have been abducted by a Naga insurgent group.
They also burnt 40 houses triggering the exodus of people from five affected villages. Gogoi has asked Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla to take up the matter with his Nagaland counterpart and to explore ways to defuse the tension in the bordering areas.
