The Brihottar Asomiya Youva Mancha in Nazira burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday in protest against his recent circular on the official language.
Led by BAYM president Ranjan Mahanta, over 200 activists thronged the Nazira town and burnt Gogoi effigy apart from shouting slogans against the government.

The 68th Republic Day observed in different places of Nazira Sub division. Forest officials in Sivasagar district captured a leopard which has been creating a reign of terror at a tea garden area in Geleky. Acting on the complaints of the local residents in the Modi Tea Estate area, the forest officials with the help of a group of people laid a trap where the animal landed on Friday night. Freedom fighter, president of Nazira District Freedom Fighters Association and veteran Congress leader Subha Gogoi breathed his last at his residence at Mazenga on Thursday.
