A people friendly policy and technology is required for extraction of natural resources in Assam and its neighbouring north eastern states.
This was more or less of what Dr Subrata Borgohain Gogoi said in her speech at the round table conference on piloting initiatives for the protection of environment and natural resources in Guwahati on Thursday.
Dr Gogoi, the associate professor and head of the petroleum technology of Dibrugarh University said that the entire north eastern region runs the risk of some major problems if oil and natural gas are allowed to extract in the absence of a state-of-the-art technology which can ensure environmental safety.
Organized by the Assam Times Foundation in the city, the round table started with introduction by its managing trustee Babul Gogoi.
