Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is leaving for New Delhi likely on Thursday to get party high command’s seal of approval for his cabinet reshuffle.
According to sources, Congress president Sonia Gandhi is expected to talk to the Gogoi to discuss the cabinet expansion and reshuffle where the chief minister wants to induct three new faces.
Three posts of cabinet ministers have been lying vacant during the last six months. Transport minister Chandan Brahma put in his papers after his BPF snapped alliance with the ruling party. Health and education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned refusing to accept Tarun Gogoi as chief minister.
After accepting Dr Sarma’s resignation, the Chief minister dropped irrigation minister Dr Ardhendu Dey and cooperation and border development minister Siddique Ahmed from the cabinet.
He did not reshuffle the cabinet fearing the recurrence of dissidence and waited till the budget session in August. Then he kept it pending till the assembly by polls in three seats. Before Durga puja he gave hint of reshuffle after the Assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana.
