After a brief silence, ULFA resumes reign of terror. Suspected ULFA militants shot dead a businessman in Majuli on Friday forcing security forces to launch an intensified offensive against the outfit. The incident took place at Kamalabari chariali in the heart of the island. Two youths called up Shivaji Prasad to the Gormur-Kamalabari PWD road to discuss a business deal. As Prasad, who owned a brick kiln reach the spot, the armed youths pumped several rounds of bullets at his body and fled away. Prasad, who received bullet injuries in his chest, thigh and stomach referred to Jorhat Medical College Hospital. But was declared brought dead. Sources said Prasad was killed after he failed to meet their extortion demand. Security forces cordoned the entire area for several hours in search of the militants. But nobody has so far been arrested. Investigation is in progress.
