Devastating fire ravages Bhutnath in Guwahati

Two people died two others injured, more than 1000 houses gutted and as many as 5000 people have been affected when a devastating fire broke out in the city’s Bhutnath area on Tuesday midnight. Talking to Assam Times, eyewitness said the fire which broke out from a kitchen at Kalipur and quickly spread and within an hour it engulfed the entire Bhutnath area leaving more than 1000 houses completely ravaged with properties worth crores of rupees. As soon as a few LPG cylinder exploded in the fire. fire brigade people later reached the spot but by then the fire reached a point which was beyond control. Also, several fire brigades could not reach the spot due to the narrow byelanes in the area. The people have alleged that the delayed fire services made the situation more worse which was straightly rejected by the department officials saying they could not reach the area due to the narrow byelanes. The local residents have alleged that the fire broke at around 12-45 but despite repeated information, the fire service people reached at 2 am only. The fire that has already ravaged properties worth crores of rupees was brought under control in the morning only. But the extent of damage has yet to be ascertained. Two people have been injured and they have been rushed to the Guwahati medical College Hospital. The people killed in the incident have been identified as Adbar Ali and Jahidur Karim.
