A historical monument that speaks volumes of the Ahoms era is on the verge of extinction. Its none other than the Gorokhya Dol in Nazira. The river Dikhow has been posing serious threat to it if the erosion is not checked at an earlier date.
But strange are the ways of the government. The 17th century monument seems to have been a liability of the government. Despite repeated requests, the government has not done even an iota to protect and preserve the historic temple.
The temple premises are collapsing to the river Dikhow. Local residents told Assam Times that they have apprised the authorities of the impending collapse of the temple. But of no avail. The government lacks sincerity which is why, the Gorokhiyatemple is going to be wiped out.

Congress leader and Nazira MLA Debobrata Saikia has demanded a special assembly session to discuss the vexed Nagalim issue. Veteran Congress leader in Nazira Tonkeshwar Saikia breath his last at his own residence of Nazira Simaluguri on Thursday. He was 81 and survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter. Saikia, the elder brother of former Assam chief minister Hiteswar Saikia died of prolonged illness. Many political leaders, organizations and individuals have deeply condoled his death. Veteran Left leader and former MLA Drupad Gohain condoled the death of the octogenerian social workers.
71th Independence Day was observed with traditional gaity and flavour in different places of Nazira Sub division. The main event was held at Nazira playground, where civil administration organised the Independence Day with a day long programme. SDO(C) Dr. Sadnek Singh hoisted the National Flag after swahid tarpan at Nazira Gandhi Maidan. On the occasion of 48th death anniversary of Kalaguru Brishnu Prashad Rabha on Tuesday, Rava Divas was observed in different places of Nazira region. Freedom fighter, trade union leader and social worker of Nazira Benu Bhuyan breath his last at his own residence on last March 20. He was 85 and survived by his wife and son. A slew of stringent measures has been failing to prevent the illegal opium trading from proliferating in some pockets of upper Assam. But it is regret to say that due to the negligence of the teachers of the 310 No Molagaon government L.P. School of Nazira the Tricolour was lying down in the ground and latter Nazira administration recovered it with the police of Nazira police station.Investigation is going on in this regard but no case is registered for it in Nazira police station till today.
