CBI is all set to quiz two Congress legislators in between Monday to Wednesday in connection with the Saradha scam. Former ministers Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Anjan Dutta are believed to have received the summons a couple of days back. But both of them have yet to reveal the dates for appearing before CBI.
The country’s premier investigating agency is likely to book one of the duo, if need be, for taking protection money from Saradha boss Sudipto Sen.
Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, who allegedly accepted protection money from Sudipto Sen, is likely to be questioned on the Saradha payments into the account of the news channel owned by his wife. He was also allegedly in touch with Sen apart from a series of close door meetings with Sen.
The documents seized from their establishments and residence are learnt to have given vital lead for CBI to initiate action against the former ministers. “Without strong evidence no raid would have been conducted and summons would not have been issued,” sources told Assam Times.
He was Sadananda Gogoi who introduced the then powerful minister to Sen, where the deal in question was struck.
