Two person were killed and over 30 others sustained injury when a powerful explosion hit a crowded place in Dibrugarh district on Sunday. The explosion took place at 7 in the evening under a truck when a round 30 people was busy with loading goods in Rajgarh town which is the main shopping point for the people.
Police officials told Assam Times that the explosion took place with a huge sound but they found it quit difficult to ascertain the nature of the blast where electricity was disrupted for several hours.
Identified as Manilal Gupta, the local trader died on the spot while over 30 others are under going treatment at local hospital. Five critically injured people have been rushed to the Assam Medical College Hospital.
Parliamentary secretary for home Etwa Munde is on his way to the spot to assess the situation. Senior police and civil officials are monitoring the situation. Security forces have cordoned off the entire area to nab the culprits.
No outfit has so far claimed the responsibility. But the needle of suspecision points towards ULFA hardly a week before the all India DGP and IGPs’ conference in Guwahati to be opened by prime minister Narendra Modi in presence of home minister Rajnath Singh.
