India, B’desh hold bilateral talks

India and Bangladesh have chalked out a slew of measures to end cross border crimes confronting both the countries for decades.

These include insurgency, infiltration, and smuggling apart from the land boundary issue that remains unsettled in the home secretary level bilateral talks in New Delhi on Monday.

Led by senior home secretary Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan, the delegation from Dhaka strongly raised the land boundary issue with their New Delhi counterparts. The Constitution Amendment Bill is pending before the Rajya Sabha. But the Parliamentary Standing Committee has cleared it a few months back.

New Delhi raised concern over the unstoppable influx from across the border apart from smuggling of narcotics and fake currency forcing Dhaka to take up the issues seriously.

Cross border human trafficking also figured in the meeting where both sides agreed to reach a pact to prevent these crimes. But only after New Delhi gets green signal from the cabinet.

Bangladeshi officials raised the issue of killing spree by BSF along the international border. Dhaka asked New Delhi to stop killing by BSF.

Union Home Secretary LC Goyal, his Secretary for Border Management Sneh Lata Kumar, and Director General of Border Security Force DK Pathak attended the meeting.
