Dimapur prisoner dragged out, lynched

In a bizarre incident that could embitter Assam-Nagaland peace initiatives, a mob of local youths in Dimapur on Friday lynched a person from Assam accusing him of raping a college girl next month.

Identified as Samin Khan the resident of Karimganj was arrested by police in this connection acting on the pressure of the various local organizations.

The court remanded him to judicial custody. But th mob stormed into the Dimpur jail on Friday morning and dragged him out of it, undressed him to be mercilessly beaten up to death on the street.  

Security forces arrived in the spot and dispersed the mob. But by then, Samin died on the spot.   

The situation is still remaining tense.

Notably, a section of local youths attacked many non Naga people and damaged their shops in Dimapur alleging rape of a college girl by a suspected Bangladeshi immigrant.
