Give peace a chance

The joint meeting of civil Zeliangrong organization on Friday at Tarung Community Hall in Imphal discussed the prevailing situation arising out of the armed conflict between the underground organization NSCN (IM) & ZUF at Khoupum Area.

The meeting condemned the armed conflict going on at Khoupum area inflicting gross of social insecurity of the public in general. It further appealed to the outfit to immediately stop these fighting in general populated areas.

The meeting was attend by Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Students’ Union Manipur, Rongmei Luh Phuam, Khoupum Area Peace Committee, social workers and various leader of Zeliangrong organization.

Show cause notice to Kirip Chaliha

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) serves show cause notice to MP Kirip Chaliha alleging his conspiracy against Chief minister Tarun Gogoi.

According a report by a vernacular daily from Guwahati, signed by the party’s disciplinary panel convener Dr Haren Das, the notice asks Mr Chaliha to show cause is given ten days why action will not be taken against him. Mr Chaliha, however, was not available for his comment.

The decision to this effect was taken on October 12 while the panel met at the Rajiv Bhawan after taking up the allegations of conspiracy against the Chief Minister.

Also, a section of the party leaders urge party high command to take drastic action against the MP from Guwahati alleging that he was hatching conspiracy against Mr Gogoi by forcing Alaka Pandey to say against Mr Gogoi while she was denied party ticket for the lat Lok sabha polls from Gauripur.

Mrs Pandey later in a meeting in the national capital admitted Mr Chaliha’s role in saying something at the heat of the moment.

Mr Chaliha is not available for his comment. The MP from Guwahati will have to reply it before the AICC as the state’s panel for disciplinary action has no authority to receive it from a member of parliament.

Speaker Gogoi to attend GPC program

Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Pranab Kumar Gogoi will attend the next ‘Guest of the Month’ program of Guwahati Press Club (GPC) on 29 April 2015. The interactive program will begin at 11.30 am and may continue till 1.30 pm. The veteran Congress leader is expected to speak on various burning issues relating to the State. Born in Sivsagar, Speaker Gogoi was involved with the Youth Congress since his early days. He was first elected to Assam Legislative Assembly in 2001 and continued his wining spree in 206 and 2011 Assembly polls. A law graduate, Speaker Gogoi was also president of Sivsagar Bar Association (1998-2002). His hobbies include listening to Classical music as well Assamese songs and he has a special interest on gardening.


AASAA ready for armed defence

AASAA threatens to take up arms for self defence if Delhi and Dispur fail to ensure their safety and security. Margherita AASAA unit president Ramanus Lakra told Assam Times that they have hardly any option for self defence. He accused both Central and State Governments of playing dirty politics by killing innocent people.

Before that led by All Adivashi Student Association of Assam(AASAA), hundreds of people came out of the homes in Margherita in protest against the attack. They thronged the local bus stand and burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Tarun Gogoi alleging failure to deal with the situation.

They later dispersed at the request of Margherita police station officer in charge Hiranya Kumar Bora and CRPF personnel.
