A smooth passage of the Indo-Bangla land swap deal is expected to resolve two issues confronting Assam for the last several decades.
Sources told Assam Times that Dhaka is all prepared to extradite Anup Chetia who has been languishing in jail for the last two decades.
“Chetia is aware of his possible extradition and he is fully prepared to land in his native place. The passage of the bill virtually clears the decks,” said a senior home ministry official.
The extradition formalities would be cleared towards the end of the month when Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be on his pathbreaking visit to Dhaka.
Chetia is expected to be flown to New Delhi before being sent to Assam so that his presence would be a big push in the peace process with ULFA which refuses to move.
