After months of will-it-won’t-it, Dispur has cleared the decks for holding the SAF games slated for November-end this year.
The Assam government on Friday night has written to the sports ministry evincing to host the sports event in the state. Sources told Assam Times that the decision was finalized after Union sports minister Sarbananda Sonowal made it clear that the games village is not mandatory for the event unlike the National Games.
The Olympic body is expected to formally announce the venue on June 6. Earlier chief minister was reluctant to host the event citing fund crunch. When the Centre assured him of funds Dispur agreed to host the event.
