Pre poll political landscape is set to give regionalism a fresh lease of life if the hectic confabulations are any indication.
A circle of dissident Congress leaders is silently preparing to join Asom Gana Parishad to revive the regional party. The first formal meeting is over.
Led by Congress MLA and former cabinet minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma at least five dissident MLAs hunkered down with top AGP leaders at on Monday midnight.
Convened at the residence of an AGP ideologue, the meeting discussed a set of strategies to strengthen regionalism. These include joining of dissident Congress leaders in AGP, seeking support from BPF, AIUDF.
Attended by AGP leaders led by president Atul Bora, Dr Kamala Kalita, Ramendra Kalita, Keshab Mahanta said that they would take on both Congress and BJP in the assembly polls early next year.
A visibly disappointed Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma was flanked by Raha MLA Piyush Hazarika, Nalbari MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah are believed to have agreed to join AGP in near future.
The former senior Congress leader including Hiranya Bora, Diganta Kalita who recently pulled out Congress are also expected to join the regional party.
