A local AASU leader was killed and at least then others sustained injured when security forces sprang upon a group of people who hit the streets in Nalbari demanding Tihu as a sub division.
The incident took place when the local residents in large were holding a huge protest meeting near the National Highway No 37 in Tihu reiterating their demand to declare Tihu as a Nalbari district sub division. Initially police and para military forces resorted to lathi charge to disperse the protestors.
When the protesters refused to clear the road, one of the CRPF jawans started indiscriminate firing at the protestors where local student Himansu Tamuly was killed along with a CRPF jawans BC Bordoloi.
But according to eyewitness, the CRPF jawan shot dead his immediate officer Bordoloi and tried to shot himself dead. But only to be prevented by his colleagues.
