Himanta divides BJP

The move to formally welcome Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is believed to have divided the BJP leaders. A section of the party leaders in Assam is upbeat with Dr Sarma’s entry saying it would help the party showing good poll performance. Some others have said that it would do more harm than good.   

 At least 7 senior leaders including MPs have been dead opposed to Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma saying that it would hamper the party’s poll prospect.  “Several top BJP leaders are disappointed with the central leadership which allowed his to join the party. It is quite embarrassing,” said a senior leader who did not wished to be named.

Another leader said, “till the other day we have been demanding action against him for his alleged involvement in a number of scams. Now how can we approach the people? What we will be telling the people.”

A BJP ideologue said, “the move will in no way help BJP come to power. It only helps Congress retain power in Dsipur. Congress will blame it all on Dr Sarma for all scams when they would be approaching the people for vote.” “The decision was taken in a haste. The central leadership could have wait,” said the leader.    

BJP workers in Jalukbari are waiting to welcome Dr Sarma on August 28. The celebration started as soon as the former Congress minister confirmed his decision to join the party. They said that they want Dr Sarma to lead the poll campaign to ensure good performance.   

Despite differences BJP is preparing to hold a huge rally in Guwahati to formally welcome Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on August 28.
Along with the former Congress minister, at least five others are expected to follow the suit.
