Astronomy workshop at Tangla


A day long astronomy workshop was held at Arunodoi Junior College Tangla on Thursday which was organised jointly by Udalguri district Aryabhatta Science Centres and Arunodoi Academy JR college in association with Pragjyotish Amateur Astronomers” Association,Guwahati Planetarium.

The workshop was supported by Department of Science and Technology ,Assam Government. More than five hundred students and teachers of various schools and colleges of Tangla namely- Arunodoi Junior College,Arunodoi Academy,Tangla English Medium HS, Tangla Adarsha Bidyapith, Jatiya Bidyalaya Asom, UN Academy,Axilium Convent and Don Bosco HS took part in the day long astronomy workshop.


Nabin Chandra Boro, Inspector of Schools, Udalguri district formally inaugurated the day long astronomy workshop at 11 am while Arup Kumar Sarma, SDO (Civil) Bhergaon subdivision attended the inaugural session as the chief guest. Speaking on the occassion SDO (C) Sarma expressed his satisfaction for organising the astronomical workshop at Tangla for students and teachers. In his speech he assured all that he would start visiting schools in the subdivision to meet students and teachers to understand their problems.


Noted astronomer of NE UN Deka,Secretary,Pragjyotish Amateur Astronomers' Association, Guwahati Planetarium attended the astronomy workshop as the resourced person.Other distinguished guests attended were Pranabjyi Das,Principal,Arunodoi Junior College; Napolean Daimari,Principal,Arunodoi Academy, Tangla; Sewali Kalita, DDK journalist and activists of “Save Trees,Save Children”; Jayanta Das,District Coordinator,ASTEC,Udalguri etc.


 Astronomer UN Deka conducted the workshop with interactive session with students present. On the occasion, students asked many interesting questions like “Can a planet like the Earth artificially created to be placed in the Solar system” etc.
