Assam and Meghalaya Chief Ministers will meet on Tuesday next to make an end to the border row which has simmering for years.
Talking to Assamtimes.org, official sources here say Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is set to sit in negotiation with his Meghalaya counterpart on Tuesday in Dispur to devise a mechanism to resolve the issue. The discussion will mainly focus on the recent tussle over Lengpih in kamrup district bordering Meghalaya. The Meghalaya government officials have informed that Chief Minister Donkuper Roy is expected to offer a joint visit to the area to make the discussion more congenial and practical. They say," Roy will be reiterating Meghalaya's claim based on land records of 1876."
Earlier, both the state governments had written to the Centre, seeking its intervention to stop the other from interfering in Langpih. The meeting is set take up problems arising out of differences in other areas between the two states.
Notably, the Assam government laid the foundation stone for office quarters in the disputed Langpih area bordering Meghalaya's West Khasi Hills and Assam's Kamrup district. This as done despite Meghalaya's stiff protest.
