All about an auto driver

A Manipuri filmmaker Meena Longjam fetches no less pride and glory to the north eastern region when her debut documentary film ‘Auto Driver’ won the Jury’s Special Mention at the recently concluded Signs film festival in Kerala.  

The film deals with the story of a lady auto driver based in the trouble torn city of Imphal. Her moral responsibility to support her ailing husband forced her to took up auto driving profession defying their tradition. It is said that the Auto driver was a part of project development workshop organized by Documentor, Kolkatta in association with TC Foundation Manipur and mentored by international award winning filmmakers.

  Auto driver will be screened in November 12 at Jeevika: Asian Livelihood festival in New Delhi and in the 21st Kolkata International film festival in the competition section.  Ait was co-produced by Ourvillage films and cinematography done by award winning filmmaker Oinam Doren.

Kidnappers arrested in Kokrajhar

Two kidnappers were apprehended at a joint operation of Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon district police today from Salakati area of Kokrajhar district, who were main accused person of kidnapping a person namely Nabin Jain of Bongaigaon on Monday last.

Prakash Medhi,deputy superintendent of police,Kokrajhar said that Nabin Jain(31) of Bongaigaon was kidnapped by unidentified miscreants on Monday last and accordingly a case was registered with Bongaigaon PS Case No. 130/2017 U/S-365 IPC. The two main accused persons were apprehended from Salakati area in a joint operation team of Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon district police and subsequently victim person was recovered.

The accused were identified as Mijing Wary of Taigirguri and Nitul Brahma of Boro Kurshakati village.Five mobile phones were recovered from their possession.Arrested accused also revealed the kidnapping case.

Jorhat trader shot dead in Dimapur

After a brief halt, Dimapur again hits media headlines for wrong reasons for yet another bizarre incident where miscreants shot dead a trader from Jorhat in broad day light on Sunday.  

The incident took place at around 1 in the afternoon at Shyam Bazar the commercial hub of Nagaland when four miscreants caught the saw mill owner Ashis Saha and asked him to board on their vehicle.

A sudden altercation took place when the trader refused to board on the vehicle. Then the miscreants sprayed several rounds of bullets at him from a point blank range and disappeared from the spot.

Saha was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. Search is on to nab the culprits. Initial investigation has yet to ascertain the reason behind the incident that sends shock and anger across the north eastern region.

The shoot out a assumes significance three months after an irate mob lynched a rape accused in public place after dragging him out of the Dimapur Central Jail.

Anundoram Borooah Awards given

The Udalguri district administration in co-ordination with AMTRON on behalf of Government of Assam ceremonially distributed Laptops and Anundoram Borooah Awards to 504 students of Udalguri district who had secured first division in the last HSLC examination at a function at DC's parade ground on October 1. Out of the 504 students 12 secured distinction marks while 91 secured star marks. Rihon Daimari,MLA,Udalguri and Chairman,Ware Housing Corporation,Assam inaugurated the ceremony at 10 AM which was presided over by Thaneswar Malakar,Deputy Commissioner,Udalguri.Tanka Bahadur Rai,Minister,Planning & Development,Law and PPG Department Assam attending the ceremony as the chief guest recalled his student life when he could show excellent results. He also spoke on the necessity of computers in every body's life. He also thanked various organizations and political parties for maintaining peace and communal harmony in the district.

Mukunda Ram Choudhury,MLA, Kalaigaon as a special guest on the occasion requested students to use Laptops properly for academic benefit only rather than for gaming or watching movies. He also spoke on the role of mothers in shaping future of students. Rakheswar Brahma,MLA,Mazbat and Parliamentary Secretary, Assam; Mrs.M Banu,Inspector of Schools,Udalguri;Dipen Boro,Advisor of Udalguri ABSU also spoke on the occasion. A few award winners namely Chinmoy Kachari of Tangla (highest marks in the district); Puja Lama of Dimakuchi; Nina Mahaliya of Tangla; Gitali Das of Mazbat etc shared their experiences with guests and people and thanked government of Assam for the unique scheme. In his concluding presidential speech,Thaneswar Malakar,DC,Udalguri thanked students and guardians for showing smiles on their faces. He remarked that those smiles of hundreds would bring smile to thousands in future. On the matter of improving academic atmosphere in the district the DC declared that magisterial visit to schools would start from October 12.
