Resentment among BJP leaders over poll tickets

Growing resentment over tickets to contest the assembly polls early next year threatens to derail BJP's prospect in Assam.

The resentment among the senior leaders came to light when the party's poll management hunkered down in New Delhi on Wednesday to shortlist the candidates.

Presided over by state party president Sarbananda Sonowal the poll management committee met at his official resident failed to shortlist the candidates for most of the candidates only because of the sharp differences among the senior leaders.

According to sources, the Congress MLAs who joined BJP, mostly, are unlikely to be allowed to contest much to the major setback of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma who was present in the meeting as the convener.

The meeting is believed to have changed the names of many candidates proposed by Siddhartha Bhattacharya during his stint as state party president.

The meeting will again take place in the capital in presence of central leaders including Ram Madhab and Mahendra Singh.         

The senior leaders also discussed the poll strategy as instructed by president Amit Shah.
