Ambubachi Mela

Devotees offering prayers to the Goddess Kamakhya as the temple door has opened today after four days at the Kamakhya temple premises, believed to be the center of the Hindu cult of Tantra in Guwahati on 25-06-08. Today is the last day of the ongoing annual four-day "Ambubachi Mela". Thousands of seers and pilgrims converged at the temple for the festival, which began on June 22.

please go through the local newspaper relased on 16/06/2009 Kamakhya temple closure GUWAHATI, June 15 – The Kamakhya temple will remain closed for four days from June 22 to June 25 on the occasion of Ambubachi Mela. The temple will reopen on June 26 morning for devotees, a press release received here today stated. No entry passes will be issued in respect of police, defence, military and paramilitary personnel for three days from the date of reopening of the temple in view of the rush of devotees, the release added.

Dr PC Rams Killing – Detailed Update

GUWAHATI: The body of abducted Food Corporation of India Executive Director (North Eastern Regional Office) Dr P.C. Ram was recovered from Anandapur village in Lower Assam’s Baksa district on Saturday. Baksa Superintendent of Police Kankanjyoti Saikia has intimated that the decomposed body of Dr Ram was dug up from the village. ULFA kills FCI Official PC Ram

Our correspondent Guwahati Latest reports have confirmed that The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has killed the Food Corporation of India (FCI) Zonal manager Phul Chand Ram in their captivity. Dr Ram’s dead body has been found on Saturday. He was kidnapped by the militants on April 17, 2007 while he was on his way back to the capital. It has been learnt that ULFA was demanding a ransom of Rs 21 crores from Rams family but the police are yet to confirm it. Further details are awaited.
