Ambubachi Mela

Devotees offering prayers to the Goddess Kamakhya as the temple door has opened today after four days at the Kamakhya temple premises, believed to be the center of the Hindu cult of Tantra in Guwahati on 25-06-08. Today is the last day of the ongoing annual four-day "Ambubachi Mela". Thousands of seers and pilgrims converged at the temple for the festival, which began on June 22.

please go through the local newspaper relased on 16/06/2009 Kamakhya temple closure GUWAHATI, June 15 – The Kamakhya temple will remain closed for four days from June 22 to June 25 on the occasion of Ambubachi Mela. The temple will reopen on June 26 morning for devotees, a press release received here today stated. No entry passes will be issued in respect of police, defence, military and paramilitary personnel for three days from the date of reopening of the temple in view of the rush of devotees, the release added.
