ABSU expresses concern over Boro Kochari Autonomous Council
The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) expressed serious concern over the declaration of Boro Kochari Autonomous Council on January 1 (2016) by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for the Boro peoples residing outside of BTAD in the state.
Lawrence Islary, general secretary of the ABSU in a press statement said,'The students union feels that people living outside BTAD area are deprived from all sorts of development and protection since Independence, but any kind temporary arrangement without constitutional validity cannot be a permanent solution to any ethnic problem'.
'We have witnessed the development councils, autonomous council and sixth scheduled councils in Assam and it's insufficient capacities in addressing the socio-economic issues. For the first time, the nationalist organizations of the Bodos have been totally ignored by the government before taking such initiative of the declaration. Therefore, the students union will observe the modality of the proposed arrangements before giving any opinion', Islary said.
In the same context the union expressed worry on the Bodo and tribal unity after formating of the declared council. Another issue is the nomenclature of the council as Boro-Kochari, the word that is used to denote the sub-tribe of the Bodos and other tribal groups of Assam. While all tribal has their own single identity and council of their own, the nomenclature Boro Kochari is unclear ax the declared council will be exclusively for Bodos only. Because, the Bodos residing in Assam and India have been identified, it's identity as Bodo with dignity in the constitution of India not as Boro-Kochari. So, the nomenclature Boro-Kochari itself is contradictory and divisive to the Bodo community. At the same time ignoring all nationalist organizations of the Bodo community in the entire process is not a good sign, the students union leader said.

Former president of Kokrajhar district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, Binati Bala Basumatary resigned from her party membership on Monday. Basumatary submitted her resignation letter to the state party president citating personal reason . She was Kokrajhar district BJP president for 2011-2015, who had gained strength of the party through her strong leadership in the district. Three cadres of the NDFB(S) were arrested by security forces in a joint operation belonging to police and army at Hakata village under Barama PS in Baksa district on Sunday. The cadres were identified as Jwangsar Boro @ KK, Mohit Mushahary and Pramod Ramchiary @ Khankari @Raja of Baksa district.
