Launching massive poll campaigns in eastern Assam for the State Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for 4 and 11 April next, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday chanted the slogan ‘A for Assam’.
“Assam was one of five advanced States in the country during the time of independence, but today the natural resource rich State is identified as one of the five backward provinces in India,” said PM Modi, while addressing a massive poll rally at Tinsukia in the morning hours.
Starting his speech in Assamese, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrity campaigner elaborated that Assam is full of natural resources including plentiful of water. He assured that once the State gets a young chief minister [Sarbananda Sonowal], the problems of drinking water, electricity, education and employment would be addressed properly.
“Very soon, the children in the country would be taught A [alphabet] for Assam,” commented PM Modi, who kicked off his speech in Assamese pronouncing Moar Maramar Asombasi Raij [my beloved residents of Assam], Joy Joyate Moi Sakaloke Rongali Bihur Subhessa Jonaiso… [at the outset, I offer my Rongali/Bohag Bihu greetings to all of you].
