Assam continues to reel under the flood waters following the incessant rains that clash the state along with the catchment areas in Arunachal Pradesh. The mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries have been overflowing and the surging waters have been wreaking havoc in 15 districts rendering over 2 lakh people homeless covering 450 villages. The worst-hit districts include Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Chirang, Lakhimpur, Golaghat, Morigaon, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Sivsagar and Kokrajhar. NDRF and army personnel have been deployed in the relief and rescue operations. The authorities have set up a number of relief camps in the affected areas. The flood waters are believed to have damaged crops in 25,000 hectares in the worst-hit affected districts.
In many places a number of embankments have been washed away leaving thousands of people marooned totally disrupting surface communication in Sivasagar, Kokrajhar and Bongaon.
